BIG BAND OF BROTHERS

Bio

The Big Band of Brothers project was sparked in large measure by John Harvey after hearing Bob Curnow's outstanding 1994 L.A. Big Band recording of the music of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. Months of intense preparation culminated on June 4th, 2018, at Bates Brothers Recording in Hueytown, Alabama, when the Big Band of Brothers convened for the first time to begin tracking the album. It was magic. New arrangements have been written to take full advantage of big band instrumentation. Some tunes deviate more than others in their jazz interpretation, yet all are reverently reminiscent of the ABB versions which inspired them. The album features instrumental guests such as Wycliffe Gordon and Jack Pearson, as well as guest vocalists Ruthie Foster and Marc Broussard.
